MOUNT VERNON — Several smaller projects are being completed in the city of Mount Vernon.
Work has begun on the retaining wall at the tax office at 3 N. Gay St., according to Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis.
The workers are digging out the old retaining wall and replacing it with interlocking bricks.
“It will make it a more secure wall and more pleasant to look at,” Mavis said.
Because of the work, the drive-through has been shut down for the time being. The project is expected to be completed in about a week and a half.
Two other smaller projects in Foundation Park are also being completed.
Because of dike damage near the west lake at Foundation Park, the trail had to be closed. Several trees were moved out of the way, the area was graded off and secured. Mavis said the trail is now open.
