CENTERBURG — A piece of legislation was introduced to the Centerburg Village Council on Tuesday night that will allow the village to enter into a lease/use agreement with Hilliar Township regarding the Centerburg Community Memorial Park.
Township trustees have been vocal in respect to how the village’s creation of its own township will affect the overall operation of the park and the cemetery. Trustee Don McCracken told the News earlier this year the township could see a loss of about $65,000 if the new township is approved.
The proposed lease/use agreement will provide rent to the township in sum of $31,650 for the time from Jan. 1, 2012, to Dec. 31, 2014. The rent would be paid in semiannual installments of $5,275 due on Feb. 28 and Aug. 31 of each year.
The contract contends the township must set up a separate account for the rental fee and use those funds solely for the purpose of park maintenance.
