CENTERBURG — A number of suggestions can always be shared when wanting to know how to live a long, healthy life. Ask Ira Workman; he could give you plenty of tips. Workman celebrated his 101st birthday Wednesday with his family at Centerburg Pointe nursing facility. His birthday cards totaled 66 so far that day, with one of them coming from Willard Scott.

The longtime Danville-area farmer credits his faith in God, healthy eating, drinking lots of water, walking, not smoking and not drinking, a good married life, and good relationships with his community and family as reasons for having lived a long, prosperous life.

His hearing is a bit weak and his speech is a bit slurred, but Workman’s mind is sharp as a tack. When asked how long he has been living at Centerburg Pointe, his family hesitated and believed they knew about how long it has been. But only Workman knew exactly how long he’s been there. “Three years on Feb. 1,” he said very definitely.
