MOUNT VERNON — The city of Mount Vernon is one step closer to bringing in a Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant.

Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said the city has approved plans for Chipotle to put in a new restaurant in the old Bob Evans building on Coshocton Avenue.

A spokesperson for Chipotle headquarters in Denver, Colo., declined to comment on the gourmet burrito and taco chain’s plans citing the company’s policy that new restaurants are not talking points until lease contracts are signed.

Chipotle started with a single store in 1993 and operates more than 1,100 restuarants.
