UTICA — Members of Utica Village Council moved to reconsider a 1.7-mill, three-year renewal levy for street lighting and pursue only an 8-mill additional levy when they met in regular session Monday evening at Utica town hall. Decision had been made at a previous meeting to table the proposed 1.7-mill renewal levy and re-evaluate the village needs for the coming years.

“The finance committee looked into this and decided to pursue this because last year we went over the allocated money that we had set aside for street lighting. This year it’s going to be between $25,000 and $26,000,” said council president Lester Grennell. “We need to add income into the street department and police department for next year because we are in arrears. It was going to be 9.7 because we were asking for the 0.7 for street lighting plus the 8-mill.”
