MOUNT VERNON — Wednesday’s meeting of the Knox County Educational Service Center school board was largely taken up with completing routine annual business, although there was a brief discussion of the state of education in Ohio and the uncertainties regarding state aid to schools.

“It’s all still up in the air,” said legislative liaison Richard McLarnan, who was pessimistic about the long-term support for public education. “No one knows what’s really going to happen yet,” he said.

Regarding personnel, the board hired Kim Vogel as an art teacher at the Knox Learning Center [formerly called the Alternative Center] and approved the employment of several individuals for assignment in the Mount Vernon City Schools. It also retroactively named Cynthia Stuart as the Learn and Serve grant administrator and authorized the disbursement of Learn and Serve grant funds. Extended days were approved for Suellen Gray to complete Education Management Information System reporting and substitute teacher and teacher aide lists were approved. The board endorsed the participation of Superintendent Timm Mackley in the 2011-12 Leadership Knox program coordinated by the Knox County Chamber of Commerce.
