FREDERICKTOWN — It only took the Fredericktown Local Board of Education a few minutes Monday afternoon to take the next step to put a tax levy on the November ballot.

The board voted 2-1 to ask the state tax commissioner to determine the property tax rate and the income tax rate necessary to raise $500,000 per year. Once that is done, the board will decide whether to put a levy on the ballot and which type of levy.

Board member Charles Streby voted against the resolution.

“I’m opposed to going back to the public right now. In my conversations with people, most say they would prefer an income tax, but no one says they will vote for it,” Streby said.
