Grinding began Friday morning to make way for paving on Venture Drive near the Knox Village Square shopping center. Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass stated, “This is not a permanent fix but a pretty significant fix.” The city owns three-fourths of the drive being paved which is being paid through the city’s Tax Increment Funding District. They will also pay up front for the remaining portion which is owned by Mount Vernon Partners Limited with reimbursement scheduled at a later date. Paving is to take place early next week with intermittent closures of Venture Drive. Cost for the city’s portion of the paving is $32,400, while the remaining portion’s bill is $14,480.

Significant Fix

High winds blew this tree limb onto a mobile home at 25 Southwest St. in Martinsburg at 6 p.m. Friday. It is home to the Thomas Walker family. They were not injured but Walker said the silver maple limb made quite a crash. He said the ceiling was damaged but they had to wait until a power line was untangled from the limb before going back into the home. The home is owned by Joseph Miller.

City sets meeting with fire chief

According to Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass, city administration is hoping to meet with Fire Chief Shawn Christy on Wednesday to discuss the allegations against him that resulted in his placement on paid administrative leave on June 2.
