MOUNT VERNON — According to Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass, city administration is hoping to meet with Fire Chief Shawn Christy on Wednesday to discuss the allegations against him that resulted in his placement on paid administrative leave on June 2.

The city has been looking into allegations that Christy falsified continuing education certification required to renew his EMT-Paramedic card.

“We want to have a discussion to hear his side of the allegations,” Glass said. The meeting, similar to a pre-disciplinary meeting, Glass said, is part of the process required when a classified civil servant has been placed on an administrative leave.

There has been no word from the Ohio Department of Public Safety as to whether or not Christy’s audit through ODPS is scheduled for discussion during the board’s August meeting.

Glass said he has spoken with Christy rarely since he was placed on leave.
