MOUNT VERNON — Regarding cell phones and the risk of brain tumors, scientists have concluded that there is no cause for alarm, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

The World Health Organization/International Agency for Research on Cancer issued a report in May stating that radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, such as those associated with wireless phones, could possibly be carcinogenic to humans.

The WHO/IARC study was done due to increasing concern that the fields emitted by wireless communication devices could have adverse health effects. A team of 31 scientists from 14 countries reviewed the research and discussed whether long-term exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields could be a potential carcinogenic hazard.
