MOUNT VERNON — The sheep/hog show arena at the Knox County Fairgrounds was invaded by a vast array of characters Wednesday morning. Coming out to compete in the goat costume class were the likes of Batman, SpongeBob SquarePants, LeBron James, Santa’s reindeer, Dorothy and the Lion from the “Wizard of Oz,” a princess and a frog, and many other creatively costumed characters.

Those junior fair participants in the market goat competition had the opportunity to take part in this fun event where they dressed their goats and themselves up in costume and paraded around the show ring to compete for prizes. “It’s a competition, but it’s a fun competition,” said host Bell Belton, president of the Knox County Goat Improvement Association.
