MOUNT GILEAD — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash, which occurred Sunday at noon on U.S. 36 near mile marker 13, west of Mount Vernon.

Debra L. Burgess, 53, of Mount Vernon, was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus. She was traveling eastbound on U.S. 36 and drove off the left side of the road, struck a culvert and overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County coroner’s assistant.

Alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
