MOUNT VERNON — A music video shot at the Woodward Opera House this summer will debut Friday evening at intermission of the Knox Idol contest at the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival.

When the Woodward Opera House was first built in 1851, its creators envisioned it hosting plays, concerts, speakers and variety shows. It performed that role, even adding movies to its list of activities, until well into the 20th century.

It sat unused for years, housing memories and gathering dust, until efforts to preserve and restore it finally made headway in the last years of the century. But it still oozes an atmosphere of age and disuse, which made it perfect for hosting a newer form of entertainment: A rock music video.

Fillip Hord of Mount Vernon directed the video, featuring the Columbus area-based band With Skies Aside from New Albany. The band has been around for about a year and this is their first video. He described their music as “post-hardcore rock.”

“It’s rock without the screaming,” Hord said. And as for the song, “The Mirror That Told No Lies,” “It’s a song about finding yourself.”
