MOUNT VERNON — After two final rounds on the main stage on Public Square, John Vonck and Corie Inverso won top honors in the 2011 Knox Idol contest Friday night. Vonck won in the Young Adult category and 15-year-old Inverso was tops in the Youth category.
Inverso said she was excited about the win. A student at Danville High School, she plans to keep on singing in the school choir, at weddings and in church.
Vonck was also thrilled to come in first. When asked what he plans to do with his $1,000 prize, Vonck, whose new daughter Caroline was just three days old on Friday, quipped, “Buy diapers.” He added that he hadn’t really thought about it, because he did not expected to win.
Finalists in this year’s Youth Idol competition included Inverso, Trey Caldwell, Lisa May and Cassidy Noonen, the youth division runner-up.
Young Adult contestants included Vonck, Leann Berg, Catherine Schermerhorn and Veronica Mroczowski, the young adult runner-up.
