SPARTA — “Awesome” is the word most frequently used to describe the new home of the Fighting Scots. The new, $47 million high school learning facility in Sparta was dedicated Sunday.
Conceived through a series of community forums beginning five years ago, the Highland community passed a levy in 2008 to pay for the $12 million local share of the project and building began by the spring of 2010. Although there were some “bumps and bruises,” the building opened on schedule for the start of classes today.
Retired superintendent Tim Hilborn served as master of ceremonies for the dedication ceremony and talked about the process through which the building was envisioned, designed and completed.
School board president Dave Gleason said, “I am proud of this school district.” He thanked everyone who played an important role in making the dream of a 21st century learning center a reality — the taxpayers, architects, designers, builders and the students who gave valuable insight into the instructional opportunities they felt were needed.
