HOWARD — East Knox student athletes struggling to meet pay-to-participate fees got a shot in the arm Monday at the school board meeting. John Knight, on behalf of the Seniors Helping East Knox Athletics, presented the board with a check for $4,600 to help defray those fees. The board later formally accepted the donation, with thanks.

High school busing is officially back at East Knox High School. The school board on Monday passed a resolution to reinstate busing for students in grades nine through twelve for the 2011- 12 school year, and subsequently recalled two bus drivers, Bob Beach and Dan Woods, from the reduction in force. Middle school principal/transportation coordinator Lisa Brown and dispatcher Angi Wells have been working on routing. Brown said all bus routes are in place for this school year, and the district will save a little money because only one bus will be taking students into Mount Vernon instead of two.
