MOUNT VERNON — Dozens of individuals descended upon Columbia Elementary School on Tuesday to select new clothing, books and school supplies — all for free.

One of the “shoppers,” Jane Ables, was very pleased to find three sweaters, a skirt and four books to take home with her.

“It is very nice they have this for people who need the clothes,” she said. “It’s also nice to see all the kids so happy to get to pick out books.”

The clothes came from individual donors, churches that collected clothes specifically for the Columbia giveaway, parents and friends of teachers.
