HOWARD — Meeting in special session Wednesday, the East Knox Board of Education voted to freeze teacher salaries for the 2011-12 school year.

The board, with Korey Kidwell abstaining, approved the master contract with the East Knox Education Association, retroactively effective July 1 through June 30, 2013. The EKEA previously ratified the contract.

The salary schedule that normally provides salary increases for years of service, commonly known as step increases, will also be frozen during the term of the agreement. The agreement has a re-opener provision for the spring of 2012 to discuss salaries only.

Superintendent Matt Caputo thanked everyone involved in the negotiation process.
