FREDERICKTOWN — Given that Wednesday was the first day of school and no village students were bused to school, Fredericktown Police Chief Jerry Day said things went smoothly that morning.

“The superintendent [Jim Peterson] and some other people were out walking around Sandusky Street to monitor things,” he said. “We were out and about, and everything went real well.”

Day also said the village is looking into ways to improve long-term safety for pedestrians crossing Sandusky at Taylor Street, where the school crossing signs were taken down when the old intermediate school was demolished.
