MOUNT VERNON — U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs, R-18, toured the Rolls-Royce plant Thursday as part of a series of stops he is making through the district before Congress reconvenes in September.

He said there was no specific reason that brought him to the plant, but he noted that by employing 1,100 people and recently investing $35 million at the site, it is tremendously important to the local economy.

The local Rolls-Royce operation, especially its recent construction and shipping of the huge power turbines destined for the Caspian Sea, is “impressive” and noted that the plant leadership wants to stay in Mount Vernon.
