MOUNT VERNON — The Ohio State Highway Patrol and MedFlight responded to a one-vehicle accident at 10881 Pipesville Road just north of Caves Road on Thursday morning.
Patrolman Matt Whims reported that the driver of a gray Chevy pickup, which was southbound on Pipesville Road, apparently ran off the right side of the road into a ditch, striking two culverts, he then overcorrected and went off the left side of the roadway and came to a stop 116 feet into a soybean field. Whims identified the driver as Jerry Hendrix of Howard, from license plate records.
Whims spoke with an unidentified neighbor who saw the accident occur, saying that Hendrix did not appear to be speeding. Minor damage was sustained by the pickup which came to rest just short of a creek and tree line. Hendrix was transported by MedFlight to The Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus, where he is listed in critical condition this morning. The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
