MOUNT VERNON — Progress on the crossover road on the east side of Mount Vernon is moving along well, Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said.

The construction company resolved an issue with unstable soil in the center of the project, which will link Yauger Road with Coshocton Avenue between Knox Community Hospital and Lowe’s. Mavis said they recently poured a 120-feet-long retaining wall along the edge of Lowe’s property. The wall is 8-feet high in the middle, tapering down at the ends.

Crews have begun work this week on the Coshocton Avenue entrance, digging out the soil and asphalt. They will soon put in a drainage pipe and the base for the new road.

The Coshocton Avenue side is expected to be closed for another 40 days and then work will begin on the southern end of the road.
