FREDERICKTOWN — Some Fredericktown school district residents have questioned recent actions by the school board and Superintendent Jim Peterson, using the term “shell game” to describe those actions. The News met with Peterson and board president Charles Streby to address those community concerns.
“We are not playing shell games,” Peterson said. “The board of education had to make some real gut-wrenching decisions.”
“What we were up to is saving money,” Streby added.
Some community members said they felt Peterson had lied to them when the levy failed, because he said he was going to cut one administrative position, that of athletic director. That position was in fact eliminated. Then the board hired Mark Delaney to serve as director of activities and dean of students.
