MOUNT VERNON — It was Congressman Bob Gibbs Appreciation Day at the Children’s Resource Center, Thursday. The Village Network, operators of the center in partnership with Knox County and local agencies, including Juvenile Court and Childrens Services, held a reception in the evening to thank Gibbs for his support of the Village Network, first as a state representative and state senator, now as congressman for the 18th Congressional District.

“He has been an aggressive supporter of children and the problems they have which we work with daily,” said Jim Miller, executive director of the Village Network.

Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis was on hand to present a proclamation he issued proclaiming Sept. 1 “Congressman Bob Gibbs Day” in the city.

“He has been a strong supporter of children and families and the agencies who serve them,” said Mavis. He also cited Gibbs’ support for agriculture and small business at each level of government.

Gibbs thanked everyone for the honor and commented, “You do great work here helping young folks. ... It should be Village Network Day for all you do here.”
