MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of numerous break-ins of rental units at Mount Vernon Storage, 555 Harcourt Road. Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Minot responded to a call on Aug. 18, reporting that as many as six units had been broken into with numerous items taken.
Marilyn Yeager, who rents four storage units at the complex, reported that three of her units had the locks cut off and that many items had been stolen.
“We went to get some furniture items out when we discovered they were broken into,” said Yeager, who explained she has been storing items for her daughter while her house is being remodeled.
Yeager contacted the sheriff’s office and was told that break-ins have been occurring at other storage unit complexes in the area as well.
The owner of Mount Vernon Storage claimed three other individual units were broken into on that same day. Contact has been unable to be made with these renters. The complex owner lives on the property and added that sheriff’s deputies occasionally drive through the area.
KCSO Capt. David Shaffer has not had any updates to report on this situation, stating that officers have been finishing reports from the original call and that he doesn’t know of any connection with other thefts so far. The reports are still under investigation.
