MOUNT VERNON — A woman was hit by a truck early this morning while trying to cross North Sandusky Street at Belmont Avenue.

According to Capt. George Hartz of the Mount Vernon Police Department, a truck driven by Bret VanHouten, 50, Mount Vernon, was attempting to turn south on to North Sandusky Street from Belmont Avenue when his truck hit Jennifer Rew, 42, Mount Vernon, as she was crossing North Sandusky, just after 6 a.m.

“She was transported to the Knox Community Hospital by the Mount Vernon Fire Department,” Hartz said. “I’m not sure about the extent of her injuries. That information is not available to us now. But I don’t think they were life threatening. The incident is still under investigation.”

Rew was treated and released from KCH.

Hartz said he believed Rew was wearing dark clothing and listening to her mp3 player while crossing the street.

“He didn’t see her and she didn’t hear him,” Hartz said.
