MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department took a report this morning at approximately 12:30 of a loud noise on East Sugar Street.

According to Capt. George Hartz of the MVPD, officers were dispatched to the area to investigate.

“We sent officers to the area to see what they could find,” Hartz said. “We thought it might be gun shots or possibly an electrical transformer exploding. The officers drove around the area but could not find any reason for the sounds.”

Hartz said the matter was no longer under investigation.
