MOUNT VERNON — Applications for the civil service examination for Mount Vernon Fire Department Chief were due Friday at 1 p.m.
At that time there were only two applicants for the job, Assistant Chief Chris Menapace and Capt. Joseph Jurkowitz.
The test is being given to find a replacement for former chief Shawn Christy. Christy resigned effective Aug. 19, after an investigation into accusations he falsified information concerning his paramedic credentials.
There will be a mandatory 30-day study period before the test is given. The date for the test will be Oct. 18.
The applicant with the highest test score will be hired as MVFD Chief if he or she is otherwise qualified.
The test scoring and the final interviewing process should take about a week or so and Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass said the city should have a new fire chief by the beginning of November.
