FREDERICKTOWN —Pizza Dock owner Mike Amheiser has once again earned a spot on the United States Pizza Team. He won first place in the Gluten-Free Pizza competition at the American Pizza Championship held Sept. 8 to 10 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

“During an interview, they asked me if I would change anything,” Amhesier said. “I said I wouldn’t change anything. It came out just perfect. What the judges think, I have no clue.”

The judges thought it was just fine and so did other taste-testers. What the world thinks of the pizza will come to light when the U.S. Pizza Team travels to international competition in 2012.

Amheiser’s winning creation featured a crust made of brown rice flour, sorghum and oat flour. The toppings were those known as Mike’s Favorites: Pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, hard salami, fresh basil, Provolone cheese, fresh garlic, bacon and Romano cheese.

Amheiser is hoping to soon be able to offer a gluten-reduced version of the award-winning pizza at Pizza Dock in the near future.
