MOUNT VERNON — Several committee meetings will precede the Mount Vernon City Council meeting Monday, with the most significant, at 6:30 p.m., to discuss the status of the bridge projects at Foundation Park and the Kokosing River Bikeway.
Mavis said they will be going over the projected figures for the restoration and placement of the bowstring truss bridge in Foundation Park, the construction of a foot bridge across the Kokosing river from the park to the levee and the renovation of the small and large railroad trestles just east of the viaduct on Ohio 13.
Mavis said they will have the projections of revenue for all four bridge projects, which are slated to take place between now and 2016.
At 6 p.m. the first session will be a chance for council members to see the new fire truck obtained this year and now being readied for service.
“It’s a chance for council members to see what they spent $300,000 on,” Mavis said.
At 6:15 p.m., the topic will be improvements to the intersection of Norton and Chestnut streets. Preliminary estimate is for $100,000 to correct drainage problems and make some other changes at the intersection, which is at one of the entrances to Rolls-Royce. The city is asking council for permission to proceed on the project.
