MOUNT VERNON — On Friday, Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences in four felony cases, according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.
Austin L. Tatman, 19 of Mount Vernon, was convicted of burglary and multiple receiving stolen property charges for burglarizing a residence on Newark Road, Mount Vernon, and being caught with seven stolen firearms on May 4. Tatman was sentenced to two years in prison on this case, as well as for violating his community control sanction in a 2010 felony case. Detective David Light, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case.
Jennifer M. Douglas, 30, Centerburg was convicted on April 29, 2011, on charges of breaking and entering, theft of credit cards, and possession of stolen credit cards. Thatcher said Douglas and two others broke into a Coshocton Avenue business and stole a credit and debit card in February. Douglas also possessed other credit cards which were stolen. She admitted to violating her previously imposed community control sanctions and Eyster sentenced her to serve 11 months in prison. Detective Cpl. Matt Dailey, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the cases.
Cassie N. Pelton, 24, Fredericktown, was convicted of selling heroin to a confidential informant working for the MVPD, on Sept. 22, 2010. Thatcher said Pelton received an 11-month prison sentence, as well as a six-month driver’s license suspension. Detectives Craig Feeney and David McElroy, MVPD, investigated the cases.
Shade A. Knox, 22, Mount Vernon, was convicted of breaking and entering for breaking into a College Street business. Thatcher said Knox was caught by Deputy Michael Rutherford, KCSO, when Knox exited the business. He received a three-year term of community control sanctions and 90 days in the Knox County Jail. In addition, Knox was ordered to undergo drug and alcohol assessment and treatment and to obtain and maintain full-time employment. If Knox fails to meet these requirements, he could serve an 11-month prison term.
