MOUNT VERNON — The trial of Harley J. Hanna, 23, Utica, in the death of Glen D. Willey, 41, of Mount Vernon, was to have begun this morning, but was delayed with the request of a continuance by Hanna’s attorney, James A. Giles. The trial has not yet been rescheduled.
Willey was found dead outside of Choo Choo’s on Pittsburgh Avenue between 5:30 and 6 a.m. the morning of May 21. A passer-by saw the body and called 9-1-1.
Hanna has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of assault in the case. He has already waived the right to a trial jury, which meant the case will be heard by Knox County Common Pleas Judge Otho Eyster.
According to reports filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Hanna and several other persons were drinking and shooting pool at Choo Choo’s the night before Willey’s body was found.
Witnesses interviewed by the sheriff’s office reported seeing Hanna and Willey argue during the evening, and arguing again outside the bar after closing time. Hanna admitted to investigators that he pushed Willey during the argument and Willey fell off the porch.
The autopsy on Willey found evidence of a single blunt trauma to the back of the head with injuries consistent with such a blow.
