CENTERBURG — Plans are in the works for the Central Ohio Joint Fire District in pursuing a 7.9-mill replacement levy on the Nov. 8 election ballot. Serving Centerburg, Hilliar, Liberty and Milford Townships, the COJFD levy committee has been working steadily for six weeks in organizing information in order to inform area residents of the proposed levy.

“We do more than just put out fires,” said COJFD Chief and levy committee member Joe Porter at a media event Tuesday evening at the Centerburg Public Library. They also perform carbon monoxide checks, conduct educational programs at schools, conduct safety presentations at nursing homes and perform numerous inspections as well as conduct numerous safety training drills for their members.

The current operating levy has been in place since 2000, and the levy committee is now asking for a 7.9-mill levy to replace the 5.5-mill levy, resulting in an overall increase of 2.4 mills.
