MOUNT VERNON —There is no doubt that we are in what could be called the digital age as more and more people turn to electronic means for information and resources. That also applies to students needing textbooks, and college bookstores are getting requests from students for eTextbooks rather than hard copy editions.
According to information from the bookstore at Central Ohio Technical College, an eTextbook is a digital, downloadable version of a physical textbook. It’s look and layout is identical to the actual textbook, and students can highlight, annotate and take notes directly in the eTextbook.
Gina Blanchard, manager of Cougar Corner, the Mount Vernon Nazarene University bookstore, said, at this point, only a small percentage of MVNU students are going in that digital direction.
“The move toward electronic textbooks is definitely in the mix, and the percentages are going up from year to year,” she said. “Overall, though, it appears our students are still wanting that hard copy book. I haven’t had more than two students ask me about an ebook.
