MOUNT VERNON — A Monday morning follow-up inspection of Henry’s at the Curtis Inn by the Mount Vernon Fire Department and the Knox County Board of Health was less than satisfactory. A joint decision between MVFD Acting Chief Chris Menapace and KCBOH Environmental Director Nate Overholt would put the reopening of Henry’s at this Friday at the earliest.
“Henry’s is still closed,” Menapace said. “The earliest it could open is this Friday. There are still health concerns with the health department. I still have concerns that the hood suppression system above their cooking equipment is still noncompliant.”
Overholt still had many concerns about food handling safety although he would not be more detailed until Health Commissioner Julie Miller returns to her office on Wednesday.
“It’s basically proper food safety techniques not being followed,” Overholt said. “It’s food handling issues. And they still need to assure us that they will have someone in the kitchen to ensure these food handling techniques are followed. We want to make sure someone is there on a regular basis to do that. I have a message from (the owners) that they want to postpone Friday’s meeting until Monday.”
