MOUNT VERNON — An update from Knox County Jobs & Family Services Director Matthew Kurtz was given Monday morning when he met with the Knox County Board of Commissioners.

Kurtz said secretary Bev Kerr has announced her retirement. Kerr’s vacancy allows one individual to be called back from the layoff list, but that individual is reportedly seeking employment elsewhere, according to Kurtz.

One position which is being added to his staff is an Adult Protective Services worker. “Due to the number of referrals we’ve gotten and where we are with the work, we really need this increase. This is the first increase in staff in many, many years,” said Kurtz. “There are funding sources that we are able to access which should cover us. We’ve been able to adjust in other areas, and overtime, and we’re hoping to gain some other efficiencies.”
