MOUNT VERNON — As children, Mother Goose nursery rhymes were a staple for many of us. Bedtime readings were filled with Humpty Dumpty, Old King Cole, Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater, Little Boy Blue, Little Bo Peep and many more. The 2011 Christmas Parade will combine the nursery rhymes of our youth with the traditional sights and sounds of Christmas.
With the theme of “A Christmas Stroll with Mother Goose,” the annual Mount Vernon Christmas Parade and Christmas Walk will invade downtown Mount Vernon on Sunday, Nov. 27, with a mix of some of our most treasured childhood memories.
“It just popped into my head on the way to work,” said Liz Lutwick, assistant publisher of the Mount Vernon News, about this year’s theme.
The merger of the Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Mount Vernon News, and Christmas Walk, sponsored by the Heritage Centre Association, into one day in 2010 brought hundreds of people to downtown for an afternoon of family-friendly activities and shopping. This year is certain to bring even more people with the return of many exciting events that made last year such a phenomenal success.
