MOUNT VERNON — On Thursday, dozens of women and a handful of men gathered together in the Glenn A. Gallagher Centre on the Ohio Eastern Star Home campus for a special breast health event, sponsored by the Center for Cancer Care at Knox Community Hospital.

Sandy Kollar, the director of the cancer care center, served as the master of ceremonies. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kollar said the goal of the event was to highlight the importance of breast health and to let individuals know they should have a personal action plan to help with early detection.

“We have several goals at the center,” she said, “not just for treating patients, but to help have them get diagnosed. Part of that is making sure that women get their screenings. We thought it was very important to educate the community about breast health, especially breast cancer. So the hospital and the center for cancer care wanted to get this information out about self breast exams, clinical breast exams and mammography.”
