MOUNT GILEAD — On Wednesday, Morrow County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported shooting in the area of 31 W. Williams St., Marengo. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered Justin Vandyke suffering from a gunshot wound in the leg.

Nicholas “Nick” M. Smith, of 31 W. Williams St., was arrested at his residence for the shooting. Smith was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with felonious assault, a felony of the second degree.

When officers arrived at the scene, Vandyke was waiting in the parking lot behind the Marengo Elementary School. Morrow County EMS personnel were called to the scene and transported Vandyke to the Morrow County Hospital. He was later transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by a medical helicopter. Vandyke’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

At this time it appears that Smith and Vandyke had a telephone conversation that resulted in an argument. Vandyke then showed up at the apartment complex where Smith lives. The shooting occurred in the open courtyard of the complex.

Authorities are looking for a female subject by the name of Ashley Sheets, 25, believed to be driving a silver Oldsmobile Alero with Ohio license BZZ2119. Sheets is believed to have information regarding the shooting incident.

The investigation into this incident is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this incident, including the whereabouts of Sheets or her vehicle should contact their local law enforcement agency or the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office at 419-946-4444.
