MOUNT VERNON — Crews were laying the five 1/2-inch base layer of asphalt on the first phase of the connector road project Friday and should be laying the intermediate layer today, Mayor Richard Mavis reported.

The curbs are all in, the sidewalk on the east side of the road is complete and the final layer of asphalt will be laid Monday, weather permitting. The striping will be done Tuesday, also depending on the weather.

The street lights will be installed by American Electric Power.

The retaining wall is also complete except for a fence to be erected along the top, Mavis added.

The next step will be to reopen the Coshocton Road entrance to Knox Community Hospital and close the Yauger Road entrance so work can begin there. Depending on weather, that could happen late next week or the following week.

Two resolutions will be among the items discussed at committee meetings before the city council meeting Monday.
