FREDERICKTOWN — Special tributes were given when the Fredericktown school board met on Tuesday, reported Treasurer Pat Miller.
She said State Rep. Margaret Ann Ruhl, on behalf of the Ohio House of Representatives, was on hand to officially commend the elementary school, the high school and the district as a whole for earning “Excellent” designations on the 2010-11 local report card.
The board itself then passed a resolution to commend Brant Bowers for being named a semifinalist in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship competition.
The board also joined other districts around the state in opposing HB 136. It passed a resolution to let Ohio legislators know the board is against the proposed use of public tax money to provide vouchers for students to attend private or parochial schools. The bill would apparently give vouchers to any public school student in Ohio whose family income is $95,000 or less, regardless of the academic performance of the public school. Any amount from the voucher not used for tuition would go into an educational savings account for the student.
A presentation of the district’s five-year financial forecast highlighted the historic and future expenditures and revenues of the school system.
