DANVILLE — Members of Village Council discussed “sprucing” up the village of Danville at its meeting Monday.

The village, with the help of funds from the Kokosing Gap Trail board, is looking at adding some trees near the trailhead. The village had originally looked at adding Cleveland Select Pear trees, but after a recommendation from Wade & Gatton Nursery, will be looking at other varieties.

Employees of the nursery suggested oak trees for several different reasons, including their longevity and sturdiness. But, council members and Mayor Bob Dile are reluctant to plant oak trees because of the acorns that fall on the ground, as well as the fact those trees may grow high enough to cause problems with electrical lines in the future.

Dile suggested they look at maple trees, preferably red maples, and council agreed. Dile will check with Wade & Gatton and the KGT board about that possibility.
