MOUNT VERNON — The sale of “bath salts” and “spice” is now illegal in Ohio and Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher reminded local merchants who have reportedly been selling those items of that fact.

Thatcher and Assistant Prosecutor Chip McConville visited two downtown shops Monday afternoon and dropped off information on the ban.

The first stop was at Waking Dreams Smoke Shop on Public Square, where they were greeted by clerk Erika Trask. They left information on the ban and a list of the many names spice and bath salts are known by.

“We don’t want to sell anything illegally,” Trask said. “There are no bath salts here.”

They went on to Cheap Tobacco on West High Street, where they talked to manager Jen Haudenschild.

“We do not sell bath salts or spice,” Haudenschild said.
