MOUNT VERNON — A public hearing for the vacation of a portion of Beam Road, Jefferson Township Road 356, took place Monday afternoon at the Board of Knox County Commissioners’ office. The commissioners viewed the land in the proposed vacation earlier in the morning before convening that afternoon for the hearing. Present for the viewing were two adjoining property landowners, Kenneth Rieheld and Greg Sheldon. Both were in favor of the vacation, and no opposition was heard.
“It’s currently not being used. And we saw no reason for it not to be vacated,” said Commissioner Teresa Bemiller, adding that the road hadn’t been used for many years and that one end had been cabled off for some time. The road is a dirt/grass surface with numerous ruts, and some portions would be difficult to navigate without a 4-wheel-drive vehicle.
