MOUNT VERNON — Greg Vickers, a meter reader and repairer foreman with the distribution department of the Mount Vernon Water and Wastewater Department, remains on paid administrative leave, a decision that was made after city administrators questioned him Monday morning.

“I was wrong about that,” Mount Vernon Safety Service Director Dave Glass said regarding comments he made to the News on Monday afternoon. “We put him on paid administrative leave right after we had the morning meeting with him on Monday.”

Glass said the union was involved in the investigation.

“He is a member of the union,” Glass said. “But that doesn’t really change anything. The whole (union) process is contractual.”

The city is investigating allegations that Vickers was making personal purchases on the city’s account with local vendors.

He has been employed with the city for nearly 35 years.
