MOUNT VERNON — On Thursday, Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences in three felony cases, according to Prosecutor John Thatcher.
On June 24, Stephen M. Follett, 53, Mount Vernon, enticed a 6-year-old boy into his home by promising to give the boy brownies. Follett was convicted of criminal child enticement, a fifth-degree felony due to Follett’s conviction in 2001 for gross sexual imposition involving an underage victim. Follett was sentenced to 11 months in prison. Thatcher said Follett is already a registered sex offender because of the prior conviction. Detective David McElroy, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.
Ryan J. Harman, 20, Mount Vernon, was convicted of grand theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, failing to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and obstructing official business. Harman was sentenced to three years of community control supervision, including a 180-day jail sentence. Harman will serve a 17-month prison term, if he violates his supervision terms. Thatcher said shortly after midnight on July 29, Sgt. Troy Glazier, MVPD, saw Harman driving a stolen 1990 Ford F-350 pickup truck southbound on Sandusky Street. Glazier started a pursuit, but Harman failed to stop running several red lights and stop signs at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.
Joseph R. Thomas, 19, Mount Vernon, was convicted of grand theft for stealing over $10,000 worth of merchandise from a store in Mount Vernon, on March 31. Thomas was sentenced to three years of community control supervision, including a 120-day jail sentence. Thomas will serve a 17-month prison term, if he violates his supervision terms. Detective Sgt. Jeff Jacobs, MVPD, investigated the case.
