MOUNT VERNON — “Massage — It does a body good.” That is the slogan informally adopted by Diane Fisher, coordinator of the Knox County Career Center School of Massage Therapy. A licensed massage therapist, Fisher is a firm believer in the healing powers of massage therapy.

“We need touch,” she said. “We as a culture, unfortunately, now especially, we’re so much more in touch with all our little devices like iPods and things, and yet touching [people] is a no-no. Even a relaxation massage, which a lot of people feel is just pampering, isn’t. It’s really therapeutic in my mind. It’s helpful to help us learn to relax and to reclaim some of ourselves, so our body can get to that rest and relaxation place.
