MOUNT VERNON — The scores from the civil service fire chief test are back. They will not become official, however, until a five-day appeal period expires this Friday, according to Safety-Service Director David Glass. Glass said the final, official results would be announced this Friday.

Each candidate has the right to challenge the answer given to any question on the exam. For this reason the scores are not final and official until the appeal process is over.

Glass said there will be no post-exam interview of the two candidates, Acting Chief Chris Menapace and Capt. Joe Jurkowitz.

“The Ohio Revised Code stipulates there be an interview only if there is a compelling reason to disqualify one of the candidates,” said Glass. “Otherwise it is not mandated by the state.”

The winner will be the candidate with the highest test score.
