A Community Development Block Grant has made it possible to refurbish North Mulberry Street between Burgess and Pleasant streets. Mount Vernon City Engineer Cameron Keaton said new curbs, gutters and sidewalks are being built. Small’s Asphalt has the contract for $53,283. I-beams that will brace the north wall of the Buchwald Center are being welded to brackets bolted into the wall. The wall was against the old Kresge building that burned last fall and needed to be stabilized. The beams will go 8 feet undergound and be covered with cement to keep the brick wall secure.
