MOUNT VERNON — Numerous Knox County businesses were honored for their employment efforts of the disabled at the fifth annual employer recognition breakfast this morning hosted by New Hope Industries at The Dan Emmett Conference Center.

Welcoming the guest employers and employees was Dennis Eggerton, CEO of New Hope Industries, who introduced a variety of speakers for the breakfast. Opening remarks were heard from Steve Oster, Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities superintendent.

“We serve almost 500 individuals in Knox County with disabilities. And it’s because of the people in this room today that these people may have jobs and can give back to the community,” said Oster. “Thank you for everything you have done in making this a successful project.”

Taking risks was a theme touched on by Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis.
